Marie Laure Djelic

Marie-Laure Salles-Djelic’s research addresses the complex interactions between Business and Society. In a sociological tradition inspired by Weberian institutionalism, economic activity cannot be divorced from the institutional structures in which it is embedded. These structures, furthermore, are not universal; they are situated and variable in time and space. Marie-Laure Salles-Djelic has used this epistemological approach to investigate what we can call, using the words of Karl Polanyi, the new “Great Transformation” – the consequential evolution through which economic dynamics and logics have come to impose themselves in more and more dimensions of our societies and lives.

Her research interests include:

1. The historical transformation of capitalism and national business system
   
2. The development and diffusion of corporate and financialized capitalism and its social and political consequences
   
3. The role of professions ans social networks in the transnational diffusion of rules and practices
   
4. Americanization and globalization
   The dynamics of transnational regulation and governance
   
5. Corporate governance and corporate social responsibility
   
6. The ethical foundation of contemporary capitalism and the political issues associated with it.
   
7. Economic sociology, institutional theory.
   

Marie-Laure Salles-Djelic is the author of numerous articles and books, including Exporting the American Model(Oxford University Press 1998) and Transnational Communities: Shaping Global Economic Governance(Cambridge University Press, 2010), co-authored with S. Quack.
In 2000, she was the laureate of the Max Weber prize for the best book in organizational sociology from the American Sociological Association for her book Exporting the American Model.

Marie-Laure Salles-Djelic was also appointed Co-Dean of the School of Management and Innovation, recently founded at Sciences Po.
