Dr Ma obtained a distinction in her medical degree (MBBS) from King's College London in 2002. During her medical degree, she also carried out an intercalated BSc in Physiology with Basic Medical Sciences and was awarded a first. She underwent her junior doctor training at St Thomas and Guy's Hospital in London. After becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2005, she remained in London to undertake her rheumatology training. During her training, she was also awarded a distinction in her MSc in Rheumatology at King's College London. Subsequently, she was awarded the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Doctoral Research Fellowship to undertake her doctoral thesis in rheumatoid arthritis, under the guidance of Prof Andrew Cope and Prof David L Scott at King's College London. After her training, she worked as a consultant at King's College Hospital, London and was involved in several national clinical trials. Before joining National University Hospital in 2019, She also spent time as a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Rheumatology at UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital (UCH), USA.
