Margaret Flaherty

Margaret has spent the last 25 years building coalitions of leadership companies around the sustainable development agenda. She was the Chief Operating Officer/Chief of Staff at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) - an organization she helped launch 20 years ago. Prior to that, she was with the International Chamber of Commerce / World Industry Council for the Environment in Paris, France. A Swiss, Irish and American national, she is based in Geneva, Switzerland, where she combines teaching with consulting on business and sustainability. In addition to her role with the Lorange Institute, she is a Professor at the Business School Lausanne, a lecturer at the University of Geneva and Visiting Faculty member of the DeTao Masters Institute in Shanghai, China. She teaches at the undergraduate, Master’s and MBA levels. Margaret is currently a member of the Sustainability / Corporate Citizenship Advisory Boards of Abbott (USA) and held similar roles with Caterpillar (USA), Areva (France), AccountAbility (UK) and FSG (US & CH). She has a M.Sc from Tufts University (Boston) and a Juris Doctorate from Northeastern University School of Law (Boston). She has also completed Executive Education Programs at both Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard Business School.
