Biography

Majid Sedighi is a Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering. He is also the Postgraduate Research Admissions Tutor in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering. He is a Civil Engineer with an MSc and PhD in Geotechnical Engineering. He worked in the industry for five years (2002-2007) as a senior structural and geotechnical design engineer in three consulting engineering companies. His expertise and research interest cover areas of geoenergy and geoenvironmental engineering with a focus on coupled behaviour of geomaterials and chemical interaction effects. In his PhD, he conducted research on theoretical aspects of coupled thermal, hydraulic, chemical and mechanical behaviour of unsaturated soils by looking into the hydro-geochemical interactions in swelling clays and the effects on reactive transport processes.

Prior to his current post, he has been a UNESCO Research Fellow at Cardiff University (2011-2015) and responsible for conducting research and co-management/co-supervision of scientific developments in several research projects at the Geoenvironmental Research Centre, Cardiff University including i) geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste (SAFE Barriers funded by EPSRC, Rock thermal data analysis and inverse modelling through two projects funded by Posiva Oy and Petrus III programme), ii) geological carbon sequestration, ground source heat, advanced computational modelling and decision support system development as part of a £10M European funded research project on geoenergy problems at Cardiff University.
