Dr. Purda is an Associate Professor and an RBC Fellow of Finance at Smith School of Business. Lynnette received her PhD from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Prior to commencing her PhD, she worked in investment banking as part of a Calgary-based oil and gas team.

Lynnette conducts empirical research in corporate finance with a particular focus on corporate governance. Much of her work has examined potential monitors of firm behaviour including internal monitors such as the board of directors, and external monitors such as credit rating agencies and regulators. Dr. Purda’s work is frequently interdisciplinary in nature, and has combined the study of finance with international business, accounting and law. Her research has been published in top journals within these fields including the Journal of International Business Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, and the American Law and Economics Review. Lynnette’s work is also of interest to policy makers and regulators with invited presentations to the Bank of Canada and the Accounting Standards Oversight Council of Canada.

Lynnette teaches in the Masters of Finance, Masters of International Business, and EMBA programs at Queen’s University. Her dedication to student learning has resulted in nominations for awards in Teaching Excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Most recently, she was acknowledged as the Queen’s Instructor of the Year in the Masters of Finance (Beijing) program.
