Lutz Bellman (born in 1956) studied business studies at the University of Hanover before completing his doctoral degree at the Institute of Quantitative Economic Research. In 1988, he started working at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in Nuremberg. He completed his habilitation in economics in Hanover in 2003. He has conducted research projects in collaboration with the US National Bureau of Economic Research, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and the European Commission. He is a member of the research council at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and the DGB’s Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftliches Institut (WSI), an institute which advises works councils, and a research fellow at Forschungsinstitut zur Zukunft der Arbeit GmbH (IZA). He was appointed to the newly established Chair of Labor Economics at the School of Business and Economics in May 2009. Professor Bellmann is also currently head of the IAB research department ‘Establishments and Employment’ and the IAB Establishment Panel Survey Project
His research focuses on labor economics, the economics of education, microeconomic methods and labor market economics.
