Coordinator of Student Teaching; holds a Ph.D. in music education and master’s in music education and flute from the Eastman School of Music, and a bachelor’s in flute performance from the Lamont School of Music at University of Denver; teaches courses in classroom methods; supervises graduate students, instrumental techniques courses and field experience placements; coordinates student teaching seminar; honors project advisor; member, advisory board, Creative Arts Program; as Coach for WIDE World (Wide-scale Interactive Development for Educators), Harvard Graduate School of Education, works with individuals and teams of teachers from around the world who participate in professional development courses focusing on “Teaching for Understanding”; served as faculty member, Project Zero Summer Institute, facilitated study groups and taught mini-courses on learning in and through the arts; served as instructor at Nazareth College of Rochester, visiting faculty at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and faculty, Hartwick College; past chair, early childhood music, New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA); past Coordinator, MusicTIME program, Eastman School of Music and former director of early childhood and elementary music, Levine School of Music; taught elementary music, Rochester (N.Y.) City School District and Fairfax County Public Schools (Va.); research interests include children's musical understanding, teacher education and collaborative professional development practices, and school-university partnerships; active clinician at state, regional and national levels; has presented research at conferences/symposia of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association, National Association for Music Education (MENC), New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), Center for Applied Research in Musical Understanding (CARMU), Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE) and the American Educational Research Association (AERA); research published in Impact II, FCPS Educational Foundation, School Music News (NYSSMA),Advances in Music Education Research; member, editorial committee, Perspectives, Early Childhood Music and Movement Association; member, advisory board, Music Educators Journal.
