Biography

Darla Moore School of Business

Linyun Yang joined the Darla Moore School of Business in 2018 as an assistant professor of marketing. Prior to joining the Moore School faculty, she was an assistant professor of marketing at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 2010-2018.

In her research, she explores how consumers make inferences about other people, brands, and products based on superficial traits. Recent projects have examined how gender is attributed to humanized brands and products, how a woman’s beauty work shapes perceptions of her moral character, and how a company’s size influences consumers’ expectations of its warmth. Her work has appeared in the Journal of Consumer Research and the International Journal of Research in Marketing.

She advises students in the marketing Ph.D. program and currently teaches consumer behavior to MBA and undergraduate students, receiving an honorable mention for the MBA Elective Faculty of the Year award in 2021. In the past, she has also taught global marketing and marketing strategy at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
