Mendoza College of Business

Dr. Elizabeth A. Tuleja is an Associate Teaching Professor of Management at the Fanning Center for Communication, Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame. Dr. Tuleja’s area of expertise is in Intercultural Communication and Global Leadership. She holds a Master’s degree in Intercultural Communication and a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. She teaches courses in Intercultural Communication for the MBA program and Intercultural Management for the EMBA programs and leads the cross-cultural immersion programs in China every year. She has taught and consulted for over 15 years in many areas of management communication with a variety of clients, such as Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, AXA, China Development Bank, and HSBC. Past experience has included teaching for eight years at The Wharton School and for three years at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. At The Wharton Communication Program she was in charge of developing curricula and teaching a variety of communication courses for the MBA and Executive MBA programs. In addition, she oversaw training and development for Wharton’s international student population. At The Chinese University of Hong Kong she started a management communication program for the business school and conducted research in the area of intercultural communication in management in Hong Kong and China. She continues to study Mandarin and do research in both Hong Kong and the mainland. Over the years she has been a popular key note speaker with organizations such as Cyberport Venture Capital Forum, Joint University Outstanding Marketing Award (JUOMA), Hong Kong Federation of Business Students (HKFBS), China Development Bank and the Asia-Pacific Institute of Business, the HSBC Young Entrepreneur Competition, the Rotary Club of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and the iNDepth .program at Notre Dame. Dr. Tuleja has received a number of teaching awards over the years, and her commitment to teaching and learning is of primary importance as she helps students and professionals manage the complexity that comes with communicating in a global work environment. She believes that learning should be engaging, which means she strives for creativity in all of her courses and programs. Her research focuses on issues of intercultural communication and global leadership. She publishes in leading business communication journals and has published a book, Intercultural Communication for Business, soon to be in its 3rd edition (Cengage, 2013) which focuses on practical applications regarding communication issues for professionals who want to understand intercultural communication at work. She is a Faculty Fellow of the Kellogg Institute for International Studies and is involved with the Global Learning Community task force, which is working on the internationalization of curricula throughout the campus.
