Lawrence Chan

Larry Chan has over 45 years of professional experience designing and planning private and public projects across North America and overseas, particularly initiatives that engage complex urban settings. He was previously Co-Founder and Principal of Chan Krieger & Associates, a mid-sized award-winning practice for over 25 years that successfully united and integrated the disciplines of architecture and urban design to promote the urbanity of cities, communities, and campuses. As an architect, urban designer, master planner, teacher, and occasional citizen representative, Larry brings a balanced perspective and broad experience in understanding and implementing architecture and planning initiatives. His collective work is comprised of multiple scales that emphasizes shaping the public realm where buildings and open spaces are integrated components of a larger whole. Projects for which Larry was Principal-in-Charge or Design Principal include: 25-year master plan for a new city in Malaysia Vision Valley on 43 square miles for 2 million people near the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia, completed in 2017; expansion and redesign of the Bund Waterfront Promenade in Shanghai completed in 2009; campus master plan for University of Massachusetts Boston, completed in 2009; design of the Signature General Aviation Terminal at Logan International Airport completed in 2007; design of Boston’s City Hall Plaza Community Arcade completed in 2001; renovation and additions to The Discovery Museum in Bridgeport CT completed in 1996; and Rhode Island School of Design's 1996 Campus Master Plan. Larry is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, the 2010 President of the Boston Society of Architects, and occasional university instructor of architecture and urban design.
