Harvard Medical School
Laurie Ozelius, Ph.D., is the Bachmann Strauss Professor and an Associated Professor in Genetics and Genomic Sciences and Neurology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She is an internationally recognized expert on the genetics of movement disorders, particularly hereditary dystonias and Parkinson’s disease and has identified the DYT1 DYT6 and DYT12 genes for inherited dystonias.
Dr. Ozelius earned her PhD in genetics from Harvard Medical School in 1994, and then did a post-doctoral fellowship in molecular neurogenetics at Harvard and Massachusetts General Hospital. She held faculty positions at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard, and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine before moving to MSSM in 2007.
In addition to her research at Mount Sinai, she serves as an ad hoc member on several NIH study sections, and on the scientific advisory boards of the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation, the Bachmann-Strauss Dystonia and Parkinson’s Foundation and the Benign Essential Blepharospasm Research Foundation. She is also on the Executive Committee of the Dystonia Study Group. She is an author of more than 130 peer-reviewed papers and is often invited to lecture on the genetics of movement disorders, both nationally and internationally.
