Larry Lapide

Dr. Lapide has over 40 years of experience in industry, consulting, business research, and academia. Most recently he was the Director of Demand Management at the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL). He also managed the launch of MIT’s Supply Chain 2020 Project that began in 2005. He is currently working on an Age Lab-affiliated project, “Senior Services 2030”. The project is focusing on the impact of the “Baby Boomers” generational shift on municipalities, the ‘supply chain’ services they plan to deliver to their aging populations, and the expected demands aging “Baby Boomers” will place on their municipalities.

Dr. Lapide is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement in Business Forecasting & Planning Award bestowed by the Institute of Business Forecasting & Planning in 2012. In 2001, Dr. Lapide was recognized by Supply Chain Technology News magazine as one of four top thought leaders in supply chain; and in 2006, he was featured in Supply Chain Management Review’s “Profiles in Leadership” column. Prior to CTL, Dr. Lapide worked at AMR Research (now Gartner) serving variously as VP and Service Director for Supply Chain Strategies, VP of Research Operations for Business Applications, and GM for Benchmarking Services.

Dr. Lapide is a widely published and invited speaker about Supply Chain Management with over 135 professional presentations and over 190 trade publications. Dr Lapide has written an ongoing “Insights” column in Supply Chain Management Review magazine since 2007, and written a quarterly column in the Journal of Business Forecasting since 1997. He co-authored a book, “e-Business: The Strategic Impact on Supply Chain and Logistics” in 2001 sponsored by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (previously named the CLM). He also serves on advisory boards of the Manufacturing Leadership Council and the Institute of Business Forecasting & Planning.

Previously to AMR, he was an associate partner with Accenture and worked at Data General and Arthur D. Little. He currently teaches part-time at the University of Massachusetts: Lowell. He holds a Ph.D. in operations research from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, a master's in electrical engineering from MIT, and a bachelor's in electrical engineering from The Cooper Union.
