Kristin Barbato was named Vice President of Customer Energy Solutions at the New York Power Authority (NYPA) in May 2014. She is responsible for the development and management of energy services for NYPA’s various public sector customers throughout New York State. Energy management programs include capital and operational solutions such as energy efficiency, distributed generation, advanced technology, data analytics, and planning.
Previous to this position, she was appointed to Deputy Commissioner / Chief Energy Management Officer for New York City during the Bloomberg administration. Her team managed a total budget of $1.3B which includes $800M for the City’s annual utility budget. With primary implementation responsibility of PlaNYC, New York City’s long-term sustainability plan, they managed a portfolio of projects which encompassed efficiency, renewables, emerging technologies, energy education, and building performance for the City’s 4000+ facilities. Before this appointment, she was Director of Business Development for a global energy and environmental services company, Veolia Environnement. Ms. Barbato also worked for Con Edison and Florida Power & Light investor owned utilities in departments including Strategic Planning, Customer Operations, Engineering, and Information Technology.
Ms. Barbato graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Cornell University. She also holds a M.S. in Organizational Leadership from Mercy College and in May of 2008, she completed her MBA from Columbia University.
