Konstantinos Matakos

Konstantinos joined King's in 2015 and is currently a Senior Lecturer of Economics at the Department of Political Economy at King's College London. Previously, Konstantinos was a Fellow in Political Science and Political Economy at LSE's Department of Government (2013 - 2015).

In the past he also held the position of Visiting Asst. Professor in Political Economy at the University of Rochester's Wallis Institute. Konstantinos completed his PhD in Economics at the University of Warwick (2012).

Konstantinos' primary research fields are Political Economy, Positive Political Science, Public Economics and Applied Microeconomics. In his research, he utilises both formal game-theoretic modelling and systematic empirical analysis.

His research interests range from political economics and positive political theory to public policy evaluation and design. He is particularly interested in the political economy of redistribution and machine politics, electoral behaviour and formal models of elections. He also studies how electoral institutions evolve endogenously and what are the effects of electoral systems on polarisation and turnout.

The focus of his most recent work is on the linkages between economic and political inequality, the conditions for political and economic development and the effects of electoral and political institutions on electoral competition the structure of the party-system and polarization.
