Koen Desmet

As a senior fire captain with backgrounds in chemistry, I have particular interest in Hazmat, CBRNE and Industrial incident mitigation. Next to the operational aspects I also specialize in industrial fire prevention, pre-intervention planning and crisis management. Aside from the full time job I teach the bases of technological risk and crisis management as a part-time professor at the University of Antwerp in the master in Safety Sciences. I lecture various courses and coördinate a module of toxicology in the hazmat specialist post graduate course (adviseur gevaarlijke stoffen). And teach in the safety advisor course (preventieadviseur niv 1), both at the UA. Using my down time I take up the job as volunteer fire captain at the fire zone Flemish Ardens (Bvlar) in my home town. Internationally I volunteer as member of atemschutzunfaelle.eu focusing on keeping firefighters save. In this busy schedule I try not to forget my family... which my beautiful wife keeps on the rails...
