Kieron Barclay

Research Summary

I am a Research Officer in the Department of Social Policy at the London School of Economics, and a Research Fellow at the Department of Sociology at Stockholm University. At LSE I am a member of Professor Mikko Myrskylä''s ERC project COSTPOST, and at Stockholm University I am a member of Professor Jens Rydgren''s ERC project LIFEINCON. I received my PhD from Stockholm University in 2014. I am generally working on life course research in social demography. My current work focuses upon how the sibling constellation and other factors within the family of origin can affect later life outcomes such as educational attainment, cognitive ability, labour market outcomes, marital stability, and mortality. In practice this means examining the long-term impact of birth order, family size, the gender composition of the sibling group, birth intervals, and parental age at the time of birth. I am also involved in research examining the impact of kin on mortality, and the relationship between parity and mortality. I have also previously done some work examining the potential influence of sex ratio imbalances on demographic outcomes.
