Biography

With 30 years of managing construction, complex systems integration and software development projects, Kevin Aguanno is known in the industry for his innovative approaches to solving common project management problems. His specialty areas are project and program governance, project delivery methodologies, agile project management and troubled project recovery.

As a well-known keynote speaker, trainer, and coach in agile project management, Aguanno has taught thousands of people how to better manage high-change projects by using techniques from Lean, Scrum, Extreme Programming, Feature-Driven Development, OpenUP, Disciplined Agile Delivery, and other agile methods. He is a frequent presenter at conferences and private corporate events where he delights audiences with practical advice peppered with fascinating stories from his own experiences in the trenches practicing agile project management. He has taught at the University of Toronto since 1995 where he won the coveted SCS Excellence in Teaching Award, and is an adjunct professor or guest lecturer in software engineering and project management classes at several other universities.

Kevin Aguanno holds a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario, and a post-graduate Master’s Certificate in Project Management from the School of Business and Public Management at George Washington University.

Active in the project management community, Mr. Aguanno is an active member of the Project Management Institute (USA) where he holds both the Project Management Professional (PMP) and PMI Agile-Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) designations, the Association for Project Management (UK), and the Project Management Association of Canada (PMAC-AGPC) where he is a founding director, current President, current Director of Awards, and a founding First Assessor for IPMA PM competency assessments. He is also a member of the Agile Alliance and the Scrum Alliance, who awarded him with the Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and Certified Scrum

Professional (CSP) designations. Aguanno is a founding First Assessor for the American Society for the Advancement of Project Management (ASAPM) where he has performed competency assessments using the IPMA model. With IBM’s own competency certification as an Executive Project Manager, Mr. Aguanno is experienced with many project management methods including IBM’s Worldwide Project Management Method, Rational Unified Process, Scrum, OpenUP, and PRINCE2, among others. Aguanno’s management consulting experienced has all been verified by the Canadian Association of Management Consultants who awarded him the Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation in 2016. Aguanno also holds the Scrum Developer Certification (SDC), Scrum Master Certification (SMC), and Scrum Product Owner Certification (SPOC) from ScrumStudy.

In 2013, the Board of Directors of the Project Management Association of Canada (PMAC-AGPC), the Canadiannational project management association and member of the International Project Management Association (IPMA), granted its highest honour to Kevin Aguanno in recognition of his many years of service to the project management community and his promotion of greater professionalism in project management in Canada and around the world. Aguanno is was named a Fellow of the Project Management Association of Canada and was granted the privilege to use the post-nominal honorific FPMAC. In 2015, the Association for Project Management (APM), the UK’s national project management association and IPM member, recognized Kevin Aguanno’s contributions to the global project management community by naming him a Fellow of the Association for Project Management and awarding him the post-nominals FAPM.

Kevin Aguanno is the author of over thirty published books, audiobooks, and DVDs in addition to a number of articles published in magazines and journals worldwide. Mr. Aguanno is the past editor of the Element-K journal Inside Project Management and occasionally writes for PMI’s ProjectManagement.com (formerly Gantthead.com)
