About
Kathryn Jackson (she/her) serves as the director of the Career Development Center (CDC), a multi-campus office which serves all Loyola Chicago campuses, all levels of students, and alumni. The CDC houses career services, alumni career advising, prehealth advising, prelaw advising, the Student Employment/Work-Study Program, and the LUConnect Career Mentoring and Networking Program (launched in 2014).
Kathryn, a Chicago native and first-generation college graduate, joined Loyola University Chicago in 2008 as the Quinlan College of Business Academic Internship Program Coordinator. The CDC, which Kathryn oversees in addition to the Fellowships Office, is part of the Division of Student Academic Services.
Kathryn holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago (Chicago, Illinois) and a Masters of Education in Counseling and Human Services Management from DePaul University (Chicago, Illinois). A former Women Employed (Chicago, Illinois) intern, her research interests and experience are in the areas of first generation college students, workplace power dynamics, and gender equality.
She holds certificates and/or advanced training in MBTI Interpretation, Civic Reflection Dialogging via the Center for Civic Reflection, alumni-career programming from the Annapolis Institute and Educational Assessment through a joint program between Loyola Chicago and Depaul University. As an adjunct instructor, Kathryn has delivered both interdisciplinary and major-specific internship, portfolio, and career credit-bearing courses. Kathryn also serves as a career and leadership text book reviewer for several text book companies.
Since coming to Loyola Chicago, Kathryn has contributed articles and book chapters on Community Work-Study as well as earned awards from The College Board, the University of Illinois Alumni Association, and Office of the POTUS Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Outside of career services, she has taken students to the Borderlands (Mexico/Arizona) to study issues around immigration and social justice, facilitated clinical placements for Adler University graduate students, and host/supervised 3 AmeriCorps professionals. Currently, she is serving on a Committee for the National Association for College and Employers (NACE), on the Advisory Council for Loyola''s Center for Experiential Learning, as well as starting her 20th year as a career mentor in DePaul University''s Career Mentoring Program, Alumni Sharing Knowledge. Kathryn is a frequent contributor to various news and media sources on career, employment, and labor market issues including the Chicago Tribune, Black Enterprise, and Culture Amp.
Kathryn has completed the following Loyola University Chicago staff/faculty trainings: Safe Space (LGBTQI), I''m Here For You (Survivors of Dating Violence), and Share the Dream: Undocumented Ally Training.
