Biography
Kalliope Kontozoglou studied architecture at the Polytechnic of Central London (University of Westminster) under David Greene’s tutelage and in 1981 obtained her Diploma in Architecture from the Architectural Association, having attended Dalibor Vesely’s atelier.
After receiving her Diploma she cooperated with Tim Ronalds in various projects between 1982-1988. Her last project while at Tim Ronalds’ office, The Jackson’s Lane Theater won “The Sunday Times-RIBA Community Award”.
Upon her return to Athens she co-operated with T. Spanomarides and I. Zahariades for a year before setting up her own practice under the name Axis Mundi. In 2003 she merged her office with A. & B. Stylianides and K. Sionis forming 3SK Architects, the practice which won the 2003 architectural design competition to transform the Athens FIX Brewery into the National Museum of Contemporary Art. Since 2010 she works as a freelancer operating in Greece and abroad.
She has taught architectural design (Intermediate and Diploma level) in AA (1982-86) and in 1993 at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. She has also been a visiting juror at the Athens Studio for the British Columbia University (1998), the University of Western Australia (1994,2003,2013-current) and the De Montfort University. Between 2006 and 2012 she was a Member of the Advisory Board of the NGO SARCHA (School of Architecture for All) and in 2011 she was invited lecturer at the Institute for Art and Architecture in Vienna. In 2014 she was announced Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the UWA.
