Dr. Nagler is involved in clinical as well as educational research. His clinical research interest aims at improving emergent advanced airway management in pediatrics. He is involved with studies comparing how new technologies such as videolaryngoscopy can improve success rates and decrease the risk of complications during pediatric intubation. In addition, he has studied various pedagogic strategies to improve intubation performance by emergency providers. Finally, he has investigated risk factors for misplaced endotracheal tubes in pediatrics, to inform strategies to help providers avoid related complications.
Dr.Nagler's medical education research has focused on the integration of information systems to improve clinical training within pediatrics. He has published work demonstrating the development of an automated system that integrates electronic information available through a patient tracking system in combination with the electronic health record to be used for educational initiatives. In addition, he has modeled how this tool can be used to guide training in pediatric emergency medicine, as well as to improve the evaluation process for medical students. He recently completed two randomized controlled educational intervention trials. The first demonstrated benefit in utilizing an electronic platform to deliver educational material to rotating residents. The second showed that the integration of patient intubation videos into an airway curriculum for residents improved their skills based performance during simulation.
