Booth School of Business

Joshua Dean researches the interaction of poverty and cognition using primarily randomized controlled trials. He is interested in how the conditions of poverty shape cognitive development by affecting human capital investment, how environments of poverty impede cognition, and how cognitive processes may impede poverty alleviation. Dean’s research has been published in Science and the AEA Papers and Proceedings.

Dean earned a PhD in economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Additionally, he received a BS in economics and a BA mathematics and political science, both from the University of Kansas.
