Josh Broder

For more than two decades JOSH BRODER has been an executive coach, curriculum designer focusing on experiential learning, a communications & leadership trainer, and a keynote speaker.

Initially that work was focused primarily in the not-for-profit and public sectors, in particular supporting educators and students in the NYC Board of Education. Through organizations like the Theater Development Fund, Global Kids, The Irondale Ensemble, and the National Actors Theater he ran teacher trainings and did work in the classroom as a Teaching Artist. For Educators for Social Responsibility he established Peer Mentoring programs in elementary and secondary schools. Sponsored by the Lincoln Center Institute he served as a guest lecturer in aesthetic education at Fordham University, and CUNY’s Lehman College and Queens College.

Since 2000 Josh has worked much more in the corporate sector, servicing clients like Citibank, BCG Consulting, United Health Group, American Express, Pfizer, Merck, Time Warner, the Central Intelligence Agency, KKR, Prudential, Marriott, Booz & Co. and Hearst Publishing. The content has spanned a broad spectrum of communication and leadership topics including listening, agreements, conflict management, communication style recognition & flexibility, spontaneity, story-telling in a business setting, and presentation skills. Participants have included individual contributors, newly minted managers, high potential fast-trackers, and senior managers reporting to C-level supervisors.

As a curriculum designer he has specialized in the writing of theatrical scripts for educational purposes. He has written scripts for numerous firms in such sectors as professional services, finance, consumer products, entertainment and manufacturing. Sometimes performed by professional actors, sometimes by the adult learners themselves, emersion in the theatrical modality – as audience, or as performer or director – generates insight that is lasting and actionable.

Josh began his career in the corporate world, working on the producing side at CBS News. Concurrent with his early work as a trainer he also worked as an actor. Film roles include appearances in The Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia. In recent years performing has given way to writing. He has contributed pieces to the Washington Post and, upcoming, American Express Travel & Leisure Magazine. He authored a chapter in the recently published book on aesthetic education, Community In The Making.

Josh received a B.A. in theater and political science from Bennington College. He lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife and their son.
