Dr. Joseph S. Graves has more than 35 years experience providing economics and management counsel to clients, primarily in the energy industry, particularly the electric power sector, specializing in strategy development and quantitative economic and engineering analysis, especially for energy and other natural resource companies. He is currently an independent consultant, having recently completed 10 years as the founder and President of Graves Consulting Group, Inc. Prior to that he was a Partner with PA Consulting Group, Inc.; Senior Vice President with PHB Hagler Bailly; and Managing Director with Putnam, Hayes and Bartlett, Inc. He also served on the faculty of the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis. He holds two degrees each from Rice University and Carnegie Mellon University. In his consulting career, Dr. Graves assisted more than 100 corporate, government and industry organization clients primarily on planning, operations, management, regulatory and public policy issues on more than 250 engagements. For clients in the electric power industry, these engagements have included generation construction planning, integrated resource planning, load forecasting, financial analysis, fuel price projections, system adequacy and reliability analysis, research and development management, demand side management, utility accounting, planned outage scheduling, system operations, market structure analysis, market price forecasting, power and fuel contracting, regulatory compliance, market infrastructure development, market software testing and certification, market simulation and price forecasting, transmission access and pricing, industry restructuring, public utility regulation, antitrust economics and policy, bankruptcy, capital investment decisions, acquisitions and divestitures, corporate restructuring and asset valuation. In addition, he has participated in more than 30 engagements addressing other issues of energy resources, exploration and production management, operations management, energy consumption technology, regulatory policy, environmental protection, contract negotiation and reformation and management in various other industries. He has frequently been a noted speaker on current topics in the industries he has served.
