McCourt School of Public Policy
José Cuesta is a Senior Economist at the World Bank and an Affiliated Professor at GIPP. He is Associate Editor of the European Journal of Development Research. Previously, he was a Sr. Research Economist at the Inter-American Development Bank. He also taught Development Economics at the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, and worked as a Research Economist for UNDP in Honduras. He has advised multiple governments in Latin America and the Caribbean, and has conducted research on social issues in the Ivory Coast, Indonesia, Iraq, Liberia, Philippines, Thailand and Zambia. Currently, he is working on the distributive impacts of fiscal policies and employment creation opportunities in fragile countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. His research interests include development economics, crime and conflict, analytics of public policy, poverty and social protection. He has published articles on those topics in Review of Income and Wealth, Applied Economics, Journal of International Development, American Journal of Economics and Sociology, Journal of Latin American Studies, Development Policy Review, Journal of the Asia Pacific Economies, European Journal of Development Research and Journal of Income Distribution, among others.
