Jon Hindmarsh is Professor of Work and Interaction and Associate Dean (Doctoral Studies) in King’s Business School.

Jon’s research draws on ethnomethodology and conversation analysis to examine the interaction and communication fundamental to everyday work. His studies use audio and video data to explore a wide range of topics, most recently including teamwork in robot-assisted surgery, sales pitches in telemarketing work, and visitor behaviour in museums and galleries.

These studies are often developed in interdisciplinary projects funded by bodies such as the ESRC, EPSRC and NIHR. He has over 70 articles and four books, including Video in Qualitative Research (Sage), Organisation, Interaction and Practice (Cambridge University Press) and Communication in Healthcare Settings (Wiley Blackwell).

Jon is a member of the KBS Senior Leadership Team and heads up the strategic and operational development of the doctoral studies programme.

Research interests: work and organization studies; interaction and communication; technology; sociomateriality; ethnomethodology and conversation analysis.
