Biography

In 2007 I attained a BSc. (first class) in Economics at the University of Sheffield. During the degree I became interested in health economics and applied econometrics. I obtained an ESRC 1+3 award in 2008 which provided funding for an MSc. in Economics and Health Economics (distinction), dissertation topic ‘An economic analysis of the cost-effectiveness of occupational therapy’, and PhD in health and labour economics ‘An economics analysis of the national NHS reform Agenda for Change’ at the University of Sheffield.

In August 2012 I was appointed as a Research Associate in Health Economics within the Health Economics Research Group at the Institute of Health and Society at the University of Newcastle. There I further developed my interest in national policy evaluation on a one year project to examine the effect of centralising NHS emergency services in the North East of England.

In August 2013 I was appointed as a Research Associate in Health Economics within the School of Dentistry and a member of Centre for Health Economics at the University of Manchester. This project assessed 1. What is the most technically efficient mix of General Dental Practitioners and Dental Care Professionals to deliver the care requirements for a NHS high-street dental practice population? 2. What barriers and facilitators are there to role-substitution in a NHS high-street dental practice? 3. How do incentives in the remuneration systems in the UK influence the organisation of these inputs and production of outputs in the NHS? In January 2016 this report was accepted for publication by the funding body. In July 2015 I was a co-applicant on a funded Health Services and Delivery Research Programme grant to investigate the impact of changes in NHS dental practice remuneration on practice efficiency, healthcare outcomes and patients' satisfaction with service delivery.
