Professor Dobbyn’s scholarly interests focus on insurance and criminal law. His publications include: Handling Property and Casualty Claims (1985 & Supp. 1986); Handling Fidelity and Surety Claims (1985 & Supp. 1986); Insurance Law in a Nutshell (1981); Injunctions in a Nutshell (1974); and So You Want to Go to Law School (1974). He was a contributing author for the four-volume treatise entitled No Fault and Uninsured Motorist Automobile Insurance (1985). He also has published articles in the St. Mary's Law Journal, the Cornell Law Review, the Missouri Law Review, and the Boston College Industrial and Commercial Law Review, and has served as a book reviewer for the American Journal of Legal History.
Professor Dobbyn has had two legal thriller novels published. The first, NEON DRAGON, published in 2007, deals with the underworld activities of the Chinese Tong in Boston's Chinatown.
The second, FRAME UP, published in 2010, deals with art forgery and art theft in a clash between the Russian mafia and the Boston Italian mafia.
Professor Dobbyn received his J.D. from Boston College Law School and his LL.M. from Harvard Law School. At Boston College Law School, he was Casenote Editor on the Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Following graduation from law school, he was a law clerk to United States District Judge Anthony Julian. He then worked in private practice at Burns & Levinson in Boston. Professor Dobbyn has also been a Visiting Professor of Law at St. Mary's School of Law and Southwestern University School of Law.
Professor Dobbyn served in the United States Air Force, and is an active member of the Mystery Writers of America.
