dr Jörg F. Maas has been General Manager of the Reading Foundation in Mainz since January 2011 and Chairman of the Board of the European umbrella organization EURead since 2014.

dr Maas was Managing Director of the German Foundation for World Population (DSW) from 2003 to 2008 and worked in various advisory bodies of international organizations in the field of global health and development policy. In 2008 and 2009 he became the European Coordinator of the Bill & Melindas Gates Foundation based in Seattle, WA (USA). Before moving to Mainz, Dr. Maas is the executive board member of the Jugend forscht foundation in Hamburg.

dr Maas studied philosophy, German, Romance studies and philosophy of science in Bonn and Berlin and received his doctorate with a thesis on the theory and history of science. As a visiting scholar, Dr. Maas at Harvard University and has completed further training in non-profit and human resource management at Harvard and Stanford universities.

dr Maas has published in the areas of public health, demography, strategic planning in non-profit organizations, use of new media in health and education, and has taught at European universities in the areas of non-profit management and intercultural management.
