Joël Brée holds a PhD in Management Sciences from the University of Rennes 1 (1988) and an Higher doctorate (HDR) from University of Paris Dauphine in 1992. He also graduated in Management Sciences.
He is an expert on consumer behavior, and particularly on issues related to children and adolescents as consumers. He published several articles and books on this topic (he is the author of the book “ Children, consumption and marketing ” published at the PUF in 1993 and coordinated “ Kids Marketing ” at the EMS editions in 2007 and 2012). He directs the collection “ Consumption of 0-25 years old ” at the EMS editions, and he supervised the MARCO project ( MARketing and Children Obesity ) funded by the National Research Agency between 2007 and 2011.
Every year, since 2013, he organizes “Normandy Consumption Research Days”.
He mentored 35 thesis that, for most of them, were related to consumer behavior. He is regularly interviewed in the media on youth consumer issues.
He is very involved in the Association Française du Marketing (AFM), of which he has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1998 and of which he was President between 2004 and 2006. Since the end of his mandate, he has continued to work within the AFM on substantive missions such as the committee that worked on the ethics charter or collaborative actions with the Academy of Marketing Science (AMS).
He was Editor-in-Chief of the journal Recherche et Applications en Marketing (CNRS 2) from 2010 to 2014. He is also a member of the editorial board of several journals (Marketing Decisions, Young Consumers…) and is an ad hoc reviewer for others ( Journal of Advertising Research , International Journal of Marketing Research , Journal of Marketing Communication …) as well as for many national and international conferences.
Joël Brée also acts as an expert with HCERES (High Committee for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education), ANRT (National Association of Research and Technology).
Finally, he regularly carries out missions for FNEGE (National Foundation for Business Management): he organizes the seminar “ Meet the editors in Marketing “, participates in the selection jury of the European Center for Advanced Management Training (CEFAG), is a member of the scientific committee of the Xerfi / FNEGE chain…
