Jeff Lesovitz concentrates his practice on all aspects of intellectual property law, including patent litigation, technology transactions, client counseling and patent prosecution. He particularly focuses on representing tech companies in the consumer electronics, semiconductor, telecommunications, software, manufacturing and medical device industries, from startups to Fortune 500 companies. He also regularly assists clients in a variety of other business matters, including licensing, acquisitions, financing and corporate strategy involving intellectual property. He has counseled various tech startups and established companies on intellectual property strategies and transactions in view of their specific industries, competitors and business needs. Jeff has represented clients in numerous patent cases before the U.S. district courts, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, International Trade Commission and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

In addition to his legal practice, Jeff has been an adjunct professor at several universities, including Villanova University’s Law School, where he taught an advanced course on “Patent Office Trial Practice.” He also served as Judicial Extern for the Honorable Kent A. Jordan at the United States District Court, District of Delaware. Before his legal career, Jeff worked as an engineer for the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command Center (NAVSEA), where he researched and designed power systems currently used in U.S. Navy destroyers.

Jeff has been named a “Rising Star” by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers since 2016, and a “Lawyer on the Fast Track” by The Legal Intelligencer. In addition, he has authored articles published by American Intellectual Property Law Association, Law360, Andrews Intellectual Property Litigation Journal, BNA’s Antitrust & Trade Regulation Report, BNA’s Patent, Trademark and Copyright Journal, Law360 and the NY Law Journal, among others. He is also a frequent lecturer and speaker, and has held leadership positions in several IP associations.

Select Experience

Federal Court Patent Litigation

  • Successfully represented a major tech company in a litigation involving patents directed to cellular network technology. Obtained a favorable Markman order, as well as favorable summary judgment orders on infringement and validity. The jury returned a verdict in the client’s favor on all counts after a three-week trial.

Section 337 ITC Investigations

  • Represented the complainant in an investigation involving five patents directed to computer software in handheld devices. Obtained a favorable settlement after a full trial on the merits.

U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Post-Grant Proceedings

  • Represented petitioners and patent owners in numerous ex parte reexamination, inter partes review (IPRs), and covered business method (CBM) proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, achieving affirmance of clients’ patents and cancellation of competitors’ patents on many occasions.
