Jean-Paul Solomon

Lecturer at North-West University / TEFL teacher at Athena International Education Academy

Biography

I am a TEFL teacher in Taiwan and previously worked as a Sociology lecturer at the Potchefstroom campus of North-West University in South Africa. I also previously served as a Council Member of the South African Sociological Association.

I have a diverse educational background, that includes a PhD in Sociology at the University of Cape Town (UCT), in addition to qualifications in accounting and theology.

My PhD research focused on the changing relationship between race, space and occupational class (including unemployment) in the greater Cape Town area, between 1980 and 2011.

My work history is also quite diverse, including working in the accounting field, a few years as a youth worker, a few months in tourism, previous experience in TEFL/ESL, as well as numerous roles in the academia (both in research and teaching). Prior to moving to Taiwan, these experiences included living and working in different parts of South Africa, as well as England, Peru and Argentina.
