Dr. Brocker is the Chief of the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Section at Salem Hospital and focuses on treating highly injured trauma and emergent general surgery patients. He has a special interest in diverticulitis, critical care, acute care, robotic surgery, surgical education, and system-based approaches to improve care.

After 9/11, Dr. Brocker joined the U.S. Air Force, agreeing to serve after completing his medical education. He then attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed his general surgery residency at Texas A&M Health Science Center at Scott and White Hospital in Texas, followed by a two-year fellowship in trauma and surgical critical care at the University of Tennessee in Memphis.

After training, Dr. Brocker began his U.S. Air Force career as a trauma and critical care surgeon and among his many duties was responsible for training 80 physicians per year in surgical simulation and skills required for deployment overseas. Dr. Brocker was also deployed overseas in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Resolute Support in Bagram, Afghanistan as the Chief of Trauma operating on over 300 injured armed service personnel. In addition, he deployed with the first team to support over 30 missions in Operation Enduring Freedom in Somalia and was awarded with a Joint Service Achievement medal. Dr. Brocker separated from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel and started a civilian career as a trauma and critical care surgeon at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center in Texas before joining Salem Hospital in the fall of 2022.
