Jan Hendrickson

JAN HENDRICKSON, Managing Partner, Denny Hill Capital. Jan Hendrickson is recognized as a transformational leader of organizations, and an inspirational leader of people. Named a “Woman of Influence” by the Puget Sound Business Journal, Jan has helped consumer-oriented companies and organizations deliver exceptional performance for over 25 years. In the strategic and operational leadership roles she has held, Jan has proven highly adaptive in fast paced environments where impactful decisions are required to scale, leverage momentum and act on opportunities, and highly skilled at assessment of companies and their culture, business models and talent, all leading to value creation.

Jan is the Managing Partner and Founder at Denny Hill Capital since 2003, an early stage-high growth venture capital firm with a consumer-focus investment approach. In her executive capacity, Jan drives portfolio companies’ success through roles as board director, interim executive, strategist and investor.

Jan’s extensive corporate board experience includes multiple chairmanships. She has led or overseen a number of turnarounds, a successful bankruptcy, and several company sales. Jan is currently Chairman, founding board member and investor of global beauty brand butter LONDON, Director of The Commerce Bank of Washington, and previously served as Chairman of Tully’s Coffee through its bankruptcy and successful sale to Global Baristas.

Previously, Jan served as Vice President with Seattle’s most established middle market investment bank, where she represented companies in technology, manufacturing and consumer products, managing mergers, acquisitions and recapitalizations. Prior independent consulting clients include The Boeing Company and New Balance Athletic Shoes where she was charged with strategy development for new category extensions.

Earlier in Jan’s career, Jan held two significant Chief Financial Officer positions. She was the first CFO of Sound Transit, a $5B start-up responsible for financing, constructing and operating a regional mass transit system. In that capacity, Jan was a primary author and negotiator of the 1996-financing plan approved by the voters of Puget Sound’s three county region, and was responsible for building out the organization’s considerable internal infrastructure. She also served as the CFO for the Port of Seattle’s Seaport, where she directed the Port’s first change process to assign profit responsibility by line of business. Previously, Jan served as researcher for Battelle Seattle Research Center contributing to Federal Department of Energy, Department of Transportation and Nuclear Regulatory Commission policy development.

A native Seattleite, Jan holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from the University of the Washington. Philanthropic leadership is a passion for Jan, and she is a past chairman and director emeritus of the Woodland Park Zoo, past chairman and current trustee of the Frye Art Museum, vice chairman of the Community Development Round Table, trustee of Forterra, and a graduate of Leadership Tomorrow. She previously served as chairman of Wellspring Family Services.
