Harvard Medical School

James E. Stahl, M.D., C.M., M.P.H., recent section chief of General Internal Medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and current director of the primary care research fellowship and director of the medical ethics fellowship, is a practicing clinician and an outcomes researcher with expertise in decision science, operations research, and health technology assessment. As the Chief Medical Officer of TruDataRx, Dr. Stahl oversees the clinical data process and development of comparative effectiveness Evidence Reviews. He provides the valuable insight needed to ground our analysis of existing drug efficacy research in the realities of medical practice and the healthcare industry.

Dr. Stahl attended medical school at McGill University and completed a joint internal medicine residency between North Shore University Hospital - Cornell Medical School and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He then completed a National Library of Medicine fellowship in Clinical Decision Making, Informatics and Telemedicine at New England Medical Center - Tufts University School of Medicine. While there, in addition to his training he worked on the clinical decision analysis consult service, developed and helped implement several internal hospital guidelines and decision support tools and helped develop and grow the international telemedicine program. He then went to University of Pittsburgh, where he worked in the area of liver allocation policy and completed his MPH at the Graduate School of Public Health and received the award for best health policy thesis.

His research interests include discrete-event simulation, operations research, decision analysis, meta-analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, utility assessment, game theory, market design, ethics in the context of limited medical resources and applying industrial design to problem solving in health care.
