James W. Nelson Novoa is Associate Professor of Spanish and Medieval and Renaissance Studies at the University of Ottawa. He has a doctorate in hispanic studies from the University of Valencia (Spain) and has had postdoctoral fellowships in Portugal and Israel. The author of two books and numerous articles and book chapters his research centres on Iberian and Italian cultural relations in the early modern period, the role of Sephardic Jews and their descendants as cultural intermediaries, the Portuguese New Christian diaspora and questions of religious alterity in the late middle ages and early modern period.
