Biography
James Jones has a thoroughgoing knowledge of accounting and taxation issues that flow from a 35-year career with KPMG. He served as tax service and client service partner for a number of the company’s audit clients, including Central Parking Corporation, American Retirement Corporation, American Home Patient, O’Charley’s, Inc., J. Alexander’s Corporation, and Doane Pet Care Company.
Consulting
Since his retirement, James has provided various consulting services, including serving as liaison between management and the Board of Directors of a long term care facility and serving as interim CEO of a charitable organization.
Impact
From 1999 until his formal retirement in 2006, James was managing partner of KPMG’s Nashville office. Earlier, he had overseen the tax practice in the company’s offices in Nashville and Greenville, SC, and had been part of KPMG’s National Tax Practice in Washington, D.C. Since his retirement, he has served as advisor to several families who had been clients for many years.
Leadership
Professor Jones is a member of audit and nominating committees and Board of Directors of Cumberland Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He also is a Member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, Board of Directors for The Boys & Girls Club of Middle Tennessee and President of the Belle Meade Country Club.

At Vanderbilt, Professor Jones teaches a course on Tax of Corporate Shareholders, Joint Ventures & Partnerships, Mergers & Acquisitions.
