Imperial College London

James is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Marketing and Strategy. He teaches modules in strategy, marketing and management to postgraduate students.

James brings a extensive consulting and lecturing experience to his role. His teaching builds on a 25-year management consulting career, including several years as an equity partner at a leading global consulting firm.

James was a Visiting Lecturer at Imperial College for several years prior to joining as a Senior Teaching Fellow in 2019.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

James was formerly Co-Lead Partner of the EY (Ernst & Young) UK Strategy Practice. He advised some of the world's leading multinationals, mid-cap companies and private equity firms on strategic growth and performance improvement initiatives as well as M&A and organisational change topics.

James started his consulting career at Andersen Consulting in 1996 and has since worked on client engagements around the world. He has advised leading consumer products, technology, services and retail firms, including Diageo, Pepsico, Mondelez, DHL, Shell, Sony Computer Entertainment, Samsung and Aldi.

OTHER TEACHING ROLES

James lectures at leading academic institutions as an Adjunct Professor and Visiting Fellow. He teaches MBA electives in Global Marketing at Cambridge Judge Business School. At Hult International Business School he led the delivery of core academic modules on all London campus graduate programmes from 2014-2020. He was also Discipline Lead for Business Challenges across the five international campuses.

CONSULTING ENGAGEMENTS

James established a consulting firm, Alexander Partners, in 2014. He advises senior clients across industries on topics including market assessment, revenue growth optimisation, overcoming disruptive threats and organisation redesign. Working with a network of like-minded firms, James is able to deliver a range of services to his clients. Beyond project and board advisory work, James is also a mentor to CEOs, entrepreneurs and business leaders.

PERSONAL INTERESTS

James enjoys travel, consumer technology and online gaming. He is a keen follower of motorsport and was a member of the BRDC trackside Incident Team (Fire Marshal) at Silverstone for Formula One and club races (1991-8).
