Iva Petkova-Cutler

Professor, Program Advisor Social and Behavioral Sciences at Ringling College of Art and Design

Biography

Professor at Ringling College of Art + Design, Curriculum Advisor for Social and Behavioral Sciences in the Liberal Arts program and Coordinator for Gender and Sexuality studies minor. As a sociologist of culture and organizations, I study shifts in the organizational behavior of creative industries to emerging digital practice. As an institutional ethnographer, I am particularly interested in the transformation of collective organizational rituals in incumbent elites and the role of emerging digital entrepreneurs in this process. My work on the subject is published in Poetics, and my book "Engineering Legitimacy: How institutional entrepreneurs in E-Commerce bring fashion companies to the Digital Age" is with Palgrave Macmillan. I received my PhD in Sociology from Columbia University in May 2014. I hold MSc in International Business with the School of Business, Economics, and Law at Gothenburg University in Sweden, and MA in International Relations with the University of National and World Economy in Sofia, Bulgaria. I'm an avid runner, yoga/gym enthusiast, fair trade coffee-drinking fashionista, and a protector and lover of all animals, especially my two goddess cats Kali and Maya. I am also an active member of the Academy of Management, the American Sociological Association, and EGOS (European Group for Organizational Studies).
