Biography
Inge Goudsmit is Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). She is teaching and conducting research in architecture and urban design with a focus on urban politics. Inge is an architect and urban designer with 17 years of experience in practice. Before joining CUHK, she was an Associate at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), where she designed and expedited prestigious urban projects across multiple scales in all development phases in Asia and Europe. Among them is the Taipei Performing Arts Centre, a project she worked on since 2009 in close collaboration with Rem Koolhaas and which is due for completion in 2021.
Inge’s research interests are situated at the boundary between Architecture and Social Sciences, and focus on the influence of transnational and local forces on the production and appropriation of architecture. She concentrates her research on cultural flagship developments and analyses their socio-spatial impact before, during and after the construction. At CUHK, Inge promotes to bridge the gap between academia and practice to create an interdisciplinary understanding of the power relations in contemporary architecture and urbanism.
Besides CUHK, Inge has teaching experience with key academic institutions in Hong Kong and abroad, has published and lectured internationally on topics including her research about the sociological conditions of housing estates in Hong Kong as well as the power forces around cultural urban developments.
A registered architect in the Netherlands, Inge holds a Master’s degree in Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences from the Technical University of Delft, the Netherlands, as well as a Master’s in Urban Management from the Department of Public Policy, City University of Hong Kong. Inge is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) within the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR).
