Hugo Zylberberg

Hugo Zylberberg is a Cyber Fellow at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs as well as member of the Chair on Values and Policies of Personal Data at Institut Mines-Télécom and the Castex Chair of Cyber Strategy in Paris. His topics of interest include the geopolitics of cyberspace and the digital transformation of society from a technical, economic and social perspective. He is Deputy Chair of the Research Advisory Group of the Global Commission for the Stability of Cyberspace, in charge of International Peace and Security Issues.

He graduated with a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School focusing on cybersecurity and international relations, and a Master of Science from the Ecole polytechnique where he concentrated on computer science and economics. He worked as a business developer for an open source software company and co-founded The Future Society, an organization raising awareness about the technologies that fundamentally transform the way we live.

His current work focuses on data protection and internet fragmentation. Hugo has co-authored reports and articles including ‘Cyber Security Capacity Building: Developing Access’ with Alexander Klimburg, ‘A purpose-based taxonomy of personal data in the Internet of things era: the example of wellness data’ with Claire Levallois-Barth as well as ‘A European Perspective on the Protection of Personal Data in Cyberspace’ with Nikolas Ott.
