Profile

Hugh is a Professional Associate at The Gordon Institute of Business Science.

His academic background is in Engineering (Electronics, Hons), Business Management and Executive Coaching (Masters & Professional).

He spent 30 years in high technology global corporates (telecoms and IT), 20 years of which was at “C” level or General Management level, dealing with boards and EXCO’s, and running teams ranging in size from 10 to 360 people, and responsible for business units turning over up to R700m, with R100m EBIT.

He has worked as Project Manager, Product Manager, Marketing Manager, Sales Manager and General Manager (in Sales, Marketing and full P&L) in South Africa, UK and then in Australia. He returned in 1993 to make a contribution to rebuilding South Africa, becoming a CEO, MD and Business Unit Executive in both global and leading SA companies, including a listed IT company.

His more recent professional background and training is as an Executive Coach and he has a particular interest in using coaching to fast track managers into senior management positions, to help alleviate the Equity Employment situation in the private sector.

Hugh has been coaching since 2010, working at primarily Executive and Management level in Corporates and SOEs, accumulating over 2000 hours of coaching practice across a wide range of industries.

His particular coaching interests are in growing High Potential managers, Executives especially at “C” level, Senior and Middle Managers, Small to medium business owners, Individuals wanting to accelerate their development, including MBA students, and team coaching, such as an EXCO.

His teaching style uses a coaching style to encourage full participation and stimulating discussion and reflection to effect deeply embedded learning.

Hugh is a member of the ICF and was credentialed as a Coach Practitioner and Evaluator by COMENSA.
