Howard Palmer is a globally recognised specialist in international trade finance and all areas of banking within the emerging markets. Starting his banking career as a graduate trainee at London and Continental Bankers, Howard specialised in Letters of Credit, forfaiting and the first countertrades carried out in the Middle East and Africa. His banking career saw him through postings in India, Hong Kong, Nigeria and Singapore.

During his 23 years in banking Howard authored seven publications, most recently including International Trade and Pre-Export Finance – A Practitioner’s Guide; Trade Finance Risk: International Documentary Fraud and Bank Risk Analysis in the Emerging Markets, as well as over 150 professional articles.

When the emerging markets of Central and Eastern Europe opened up, Howard became the Assistant General Manager, Head of Trade and Lending at Raiffeisen Zentralbank Osterreich (RZB) in London, the largest group of banks in Central and Eastern Europe. During his time at RZB he was the Head of the Structured Trade Finance, Shipping, Forfaiting and Syndications departments, as well as the Corporate Lending, Correspondent Banking, Letters of Credit departments.

Howard has conducted in-house training solutions for the Pearson Group and international trade finance packages for Deutsche Bank, EBRD, Overseas Chinese Banking Corporation, OPEC, NedBank, Westpac, RZB and dozens of other global trade financiers.
