Singapore Management University

Lim How Khang is an Assistant Professor (Practice) at Singapore Management University (SMU), having cross-appointments with the Yong Pung How School of Law and the School of Computing and Information Systems. He is also the Director for the SMU Centre for Computational Law and the Programme Director for SMU’s Bachelor of Science (Computing & Law), a unique inter-disciplinary degree jointly offered by both schools. Prior to obtaining his LL.B. (First Class Honours) from NUS, he graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Computer Science followed by a Master of Information Technology (Minor Thesis).

In keeping with his interdisciplinary background in law and computing, his research interests include computational law and smart contract technology, machine learning and natural language processing, legal informatics and legal analytics, artificial intelligence and the law, and legal technology innovation with a focus on access to justice. How Khang began his legal career in 2009 as a Justices’ Law Clerk with the Supreme Court where he clerked for the Chief Justice, Judges of Appeal and High Court Judges. He also served concurrently as an Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court in 2010. He then joined the AttorneyGeneral’s Chambers (AGC) as a Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Criminal Justice Division where he led prosecutions for serious crimes. He subsequently took on the role of Deputy Director of the Legal Technology and Innovation Office where he spearheaded several technology and automation projects for AGC prior to joining SMU.
