Henry Epino
Assistant Professor at Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard Medical School
Biography
Harvard Medical School
Dr. Epino, attending physician in the Emergency Department of Massachusetts General Hospital, received his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency Program (HAEMR) at Brigham and Women's and Massachusetts General Hospitals. Currently, Dr. Epino is a surgery instructor at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Epino focuses on teaching clinicians how best to manage patients with whatever resources they have available, whether that is in downtown Boston with MGH Residents or in rural Rwanda or Mexico with Global Health Equity Residents (from BWH) and Emergency Residents (from HAEMR). In each locale, he spends much of his time at the bedside teaching.
Dr. Epino's administrative experience has allowed him to provide health care, build infrastructure, create programs, and employ thousands in rural Rwanda. Moreover, he performs periodic reviews of the quality of patient care provided at hospitals and health centers. These reviews have allowed improvement in patient care and patient satisfaction. Dr. Epino has often worked with the Rwandan government at national, provincial, and local district levels. These many collaborations over the years have allowed him to influence health care policy in Rwanda at many different levels.
Research
Dr. Epino's research is devoted to investigating how social, economic, and technological interventions improve the care of patients in resource-limited settings. He has developed a reputation as an expert in health care implementation in resource limited settings. Dr. Epino has published research in this field and a manuscript is currently being written documenting the methodology and outcomes since the inception of the work four years ago. As a result of these efforts, Dr. Epino has been invited to speak locally, nationally, and internationally to discuss his experiences in Rwanda.
