Biography
Biological Chemist by training, I am a lecturer in the Division of Pharmacy and Optometry. I have over 25 years of combined experience in academia, industry and SMEs. After qualifying with a PhD (Biological Chemistry, 1988) from University of Essex, I joined Biosensors Group at the Centre for Applied Microbiology Research (CAMR) in Porton Down. I worked on several pathogen and analyte detection projects and developed liposome amplified assays with new triggering mechanisms based on membrane active peptides modified from natural sequences. I moved to University of Manchester in 1996 as a drug delivery research fellow in the School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. I made transition to teaching fellow in 2004, specialising in teaching Pharmaceutical analysis and drug development process while also innovating e-learning platform for enabling reliable formative and summative assessments. I became a T&R lecturer in year 2010 and led the development of the year 2 Medicine unit.
