Gwen Yu

Gwen Yu is the Arthur Andersen Associate Professor at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. Prior to joining Ross, she was an Associate Professor at Harvard Business School in the Accounting and Management unit. Her research focuses on how accounting information affects various real economic outcomes, especially in an international setting. Professor Yu’s work has been published in top peer-reviewed journals such as The Accounting Review, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Accounting and Economics, and it has been cited and discussed in The New York Times, in The Financial Times, on CBS Money Watch, and in other outlets of the financial press.

At Ross, Yu teaches in the second-year MBA program and various Executive Education programs at the University of Michigan. She is the faculty director of the Accelerated Management Development program, which is the largest online certificate program offered by Ross Executive Education. She has previously taught in the MBA, Doctoral, and Executive Education programs at Harvard Business School. She has provided executive education to a wide range of firms and authored many cases which are used around the globe.

She serves as an Associate Editor of Management Science and on the Editorial Board of The Accounting Review and Journal of International Business Studies (starting Jan 2023). She won the Best Reviewer of the Year Award from the Journal of Accounting Research. She was recognized by the American Accounting Association as the best reviewer and best discussant (two times). In 2020, Gwen Yu won the Neary Teaching Excellence award, which recognizes the best instructor in the Masters of Accounting program; in 2022, she won the Ross Executive Education teaching impact award.

Professor Yu holds a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Michigan, where she also earned a master’s degree in applied economics. Before pursuing her graduate studies, she worked at McKinsey & Company and the global reinsurer Swiss Re.
