Gurneeta Vasudeva Singh

Gurneeta Vasudeva joined the Carlson School of Management in 2007, prior to which she worked at the Indian School of Business for two years. Her doctoral thesis on how national institutions shape firms'' approaches to technological innovation and knowledge transfers won the best dissertation awards from the Academy of Management and the Academy of International Business. Gurneeta''s research is prmarily concerned with the question of how firms search, acquire and build on the knowledge that resides in their organizational and institutional ecosystem. In particular, she has studied the role of global alliances and networks for knowledgebuilding in emergent technological industries such as fuel cells and mobile handsets, while incorporating the crossnational variations in institutions within which firms develop their knowledge capabilities. Gurneeta''s research has also examined intraorganizational arrangements that facilitate knowledge flows and enhance performance outcomes for specific types of organizational units in a high technology sector such as the pharmaceutical industry. More recently, Gurneeta has investigated how firms build environmental, social and corporate governance capabilities for sustainable growth, and learn from the actions of large prominent actorssuch as activist institutional investors in their ecosystemwho have made responsible investments a cornerstone of their international investment strategy. Her research has been published in the Academy of Management Journal, Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science and Research Policy. Gurneeta serves on the editorial review boards of the Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal and Global Strategy Journal, and is an adhoc reviewer for other management journals. She is a recipient of the Dean''s annual award for research at the Carlson School, and has received multiple research grants including one from the National Science Foundation to work as a visiting researcher at the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis in Austria, and two GrantinAid awards from the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining the academia Gurneeta worked as an international development specialist and energy policy analyst in Washington D.C., U.S.A. and New Delhi, India.  In this role she has worked with the National Academies, World Bank, USAID, Department of Energy, Department of Defense and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and other government organizations in Germany, Canada and Japan.
