New Zealand born and Australian educated, Gordon is Head of the Operations and Information Management Academic Unit within Salford Business School and has been at Salford since 2002. He states his objective is to “disseminate and share knowledge to the broadest possible audience with the goal of enabling the success of others in a digitally rich business and social environment”. Previously Gordon has taught coding as a problem solving activity to the "reluctant" , at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels. He has published work focusing on the use of technology including social media marketing, economies in game worlds, conflict in online communities, the social supply chain, on/off-line retailing and grieving networks. Other key work includes the development of science fiction prototyping as a method for technology innovation and transformation.

TEACHING

During my time at Salford I have taught at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels on Java and PHP/MySQL programming and systems development modules. I currently teach the first year undergraduate Creating Emerging Technologies module and the final year undergraduate module, Advanced Web Design.

Prior to coming to Salford I also taught modules in a variety of subject areas including media studies, sociology and Australian studies.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research focuses on specific examples and experiences of digital culture and practice. I have published work around conflict with online finance communities, economies within virtual game world and practices of online grieving and mourning. I am currently collaborating with Maria Kutar and Marie Griffiths on work related to the quantification and visualization of individual digital footprints and digital identity. Other works includes examination of science fiction and the use of science fiction prototyping in business development and innovation.
