Gillian Brooks is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Strategic Marketing at King’s Business School at King’s College London. She joined the faculty in 2020 after a post-doctoral research fellowship in Marketing at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
Trained as a sociologist, Gillian investigates core topics in consumer behaviour, social media and marketing strategy. She studies these topics primarily through qualitative research methods (e.g., ethnography, participant observation, interviews and content analysis). Gillian’s research has been published in the Journal of Marketing, Forbes, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Times and Newsweek.
She won the AMA Marketing Research SIG Don Lehmann Award and is the recipient of a Marketing Science Institute research grant. Gillian has taught various marketing and communication courses to audiences ranging from undergraduate students to executives. Previously, she was a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University. Gillian is a recipient of the Social Sciences Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Oxford and was a finalist for the “Most Acclaimed Lecturer” Teaching Award from the Oxford University Student Union. She has given invited academic and industry talks in North America, the United Kingdom and Europe.
She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Cambridge, a Master of Arts from Georgetown University, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. Prior to entering academia, Gillian worked as a publicist at a global media relations firm in Toronto, Canada.
