Biography

George Rehrey is Principal Instructional Consultant with Indiana University''s Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning, where he directs the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Program (SOTL), advising and supporting faculty of all ranks as they conduct classroom research, form communities of inquiry and disseminate their work locally, nationally, and internationally. The most recent example of his collaborative work with IUB faculty is the publication Looking Back to Move Ahead: How Students Learn Geologic Time by Predicting Future Events (Journal of College Science Teaching - Feb 2012).

Each summer, along with his colleagues Lisa Kurz and Eric Metzler (Kelley School of Business), Rehrey facilitates the Course Development Institute, where 40 faculty and graduate students participate in a four-day intensive workshop to design or redesign a course of their choice.

Rehrey is also co-founder of the Internationalization Collaborative Across Bloomington; a faculty learning community made up of teachers from Ivy Tech Community College and Indiana University. The purpose of the community is to internationalize general education courses on both campuses.

Rehrey''s own teaching and learning research includes using taxonomies to further faculty conversations about the evidence of student learning and investigating how a responsive teaching model can be integrated with backward course design methods to improve student learning.

Rehrey holds an MFA in Photography from Ohio University and a M.Ed. in Instructional Design/Organizational Development from the University of Illinois.
